An English-language weekly guide to the Hossegor, Seignosse, and Capbreton triangle. Surf, cinema, live music, what's on, where to stay. Updated every Monday morning.
Spring swell back. Light offshores from sunrise until the sea breeze kicks in around noon, Monday to Thursday. Water 14°C, wear a 4/3.
Fun. Knee-to-waist all week, cleanest in the mornings. Best window in a month if you're learning. Hire a soft-top from Surfing Hossegor and pick your tide.
Worth a session Tue, Wed, Thu. Two hours either side of low tide. Crowd manageable before 10am.
Wednesday morning is the one. Punchy 1.5m sets, not maxing. Friday afternoon could close out. Estagnots holds longer if Gravière goes mushy.
Classic May pattern. Sunny and warm Monday to Thursday, peak 22°C. Rain Saturday, clears Sunday afternoon. Pack a fleece for evenings, the Atlantic is still cold and the wind drops fast after dinner.
Outdoor screening on the sand. Bring a blanket. The Andy Irons documentary, projected ten metres from the break he competed at. If you've never seen it, this is the screening to see it at.
Order the gambas, sit outside on the terrace. Busy from noon, arrive early or book ahead. Around €20-25 a head. Rotates monthly. Next week: a different pick.
